Bryon Miller & Adam Sheetz : MASK 2020
April 5 - May 3, 2024
Opening Reception: Friday, April 5th from 5:00-9:00p.m.
Other hours by appointment
Photographer Bryon Miller and Artist/Designer Adam Sheetz have collaborated to create a series of images where we ask ourselves 'How did we get through a collective traumatic event'? Between March 2020 and April 2021 the artists created masks (Sheetz) and utilized models (Miller) to bring to life a sense of community when we were all socially distancing. These profound images will be on display, as well as a 65-page collection of the images, which include personal accounts and thoughts from the models and artists.
While in lockdown, many of us went to social media to maintain those in-person connections we were unable to have. We collectively learned how to maneuver new technology, and embraced screen time more than ever. Everyone, everywhere, all at once was connected.
For the past ten+ years Maria Neil Art Project has utilized - quite effectively, if we say so ourselves - popular social media sites to advertise and highlight many Cleveland-area artists and shows. Time and again our reach has grown in organic ways and brought new local art into many area homes and businesses.
But what happens when the main social media platform you've used to advertise your gallery openings turns against you? Over the past two weeks our advertising and posts have been shut down, without any logical reason. See what has gotten the AI bots all hot and bothered for 'violating community standards'.
